Xavier Alonso has the chance to set a new Bundesliga record in his final game in charge of Leverkusen on Saturday.

Xavier Alonso is aiming to set a new Bundesliga record as Leverkusen manager when he travels to Mainz on Saturday, going 34 away games unbeaten, Kicker reported on Friday.

Although Leverkusen finished as runners-up last season, Alonso still has a chance to make it two seasons unbeaten away from home if they stay clear of Mainz on Saturday.

‘Yes, in terms of football goals, of course,’ Alonso said of the second consecutive season unbeaten away from home. ‘It would mean a lot if we can do it.’

‘We have enough time to say goodbye, so we want to end the season with a good feeling for everyone.’

‘I think it’s good to finish everything properly and everything has its own time,’ Alonso said.
